The main component of the limestone is calcium carbonate, while the lime is mainly calcium oxide. Basic principle of lime calcining is that the calcium carbonate in limestone decomposes into calcium oxide and carbon dioxide of lime with the high temperature. All the natural rock which has calcium carbonate as the main component such as limestone, chalk, dolomitic limestone can used to produce lime. Lime plant equipments mainly include crusher, rotary kiln, vertical preheater, vertical cooler, pulse bag dust collector, belt conveyor, hoist, etc.
Breaking is a very important part in the production of lime, the main processes are as follows: Chunks of limestone are sent to jaw crusher to be coarse crushed by vibrating feeder evenly, then coarse crushed limestone are sent to the second break (impact type crushing machine or a cone type crusher) to be further broken by belt conveyor. Limestones after being crushed are sent to vibration screen to be sieved, different sizes and different specifications limestones are selected and the qualified limestones are sent to the finished product stack by belt conveyor. Limestone, coal get into the middle of the bucket after being weighed, and then are put into the feeding trolley according to the coal belt conveyor and mixed belt conveyor.
After the crushing process is calcination, in actual production, in order to speed up the decomposition, calcination temperature is often increased to 1100 ~ 1000℃. Due to the large size of limestone raw materials or the uneven distribution of temperature in the kiln, under fire lime and burned lime are often contained in the lime. The calcium carbonate in the under fire lime incompletely decompose, which leads to the lack of bonding strength. Burned lime has dense structure, the surface is often covered with a layer of molten material.
Due to the production of raw materials often contain magnesite (MgCO3), so lime also contains a minor component of Magnesium Oxide (MgO), according to the amount of magnesium oxide content, lime can be divided into calcium oxide (MgO is equal to or less than 5%) and magnesia lime (MgO>5%).
