As the cement calcinations reaction equipment, the rotary kiln experienced from thick to large, from long to development process since 1885.

Cement clinker calcinations kiln exists accompanied by the emergence of dry process, however, cement calcinations process is not yet ripe, there is no way to solve many problems, of which the biggest problem is the material's poor homogeneity.

Because of this problem, the quality of the cement clinker produced by dry process is poor, stability is poor too. For this purpose using water added pulping method(that is wet process), and then using drying, preheating, calcinations process to make the cement clinker's quality to be greatly improved. Then cement production equipment manufacturers introduced cement clinker using wet process, and gradually getting to large-scale direction until the rotary kiln cylinder's diameter is Φ7.6m, the length is 230m, rotary kiln buttress is up to six, which is not beneficial to rotary kiln support means' design, stress analysis after deformation and kiln refractory's stability, so that the operation rate of large-scale cement kilns is significantly reduced.

Around 1950, with the change and continuous development of the preheater technology, coupled with raw material dry homogenization's improvement and application, so as to produce the kiln using dry process came back to the original development track. Preheater complete heat exchange and the decomposition of the part of the material, greatly shortening the length of the rotary kiln, while heat consumption is low compared with the kiln using wet process, which greatly improves the thermal load and operating conditions of the rotary kiln, and providing a reliable technical support for the cement industry to achieve large-scaling.

Particularly after the 1970s,the rotary kiln's decomposition technology emerged, coupled with continuous optimization and improvement of preheater and decomposing furnace's structure and operating parameters. With the emerging of the new efficient grate cooler, and the release and applications of the flexible multi-channel burner, cement kiln function has undergone a qualitative change and development, achieving a leap in technology of the cement industry.
