Difference between lattice & overflow type ball mill
The grinding products of overflow type ball mill are overflowed by the hollow shaft neck of ore discharge. Therefore, the ore pulp level in the cylinder body must be higher than the minimum generatrix level of ore discharge shaft neck, therefore sometimes referred to high ore slurry surface grinding mill. Discharging is not as smooth as lattice type ball mill, sometimes causing the mineral particles with the required grinding fineness can not be discharged in time and continues to be impacted and grind by a steel ball, and then resulting in the low productivity and over crushing phenomenon. However the overflow type ball mill has the advantages of simple structure, convenient operation and easy maintenance, also the fine grinding product. Therefore, It is commonly used in fine grinding, that’s to say the grinding fineness less than 0.2mm, or the second section of the two sections’ continuous grinding.
Grinding products of Lattice type ball mill is discharged from the discharging grid plate, which has the property of forced ore discharge and high speed ore discharge. The ore pulp level of the discharge end must be lower than the minimum generatrix level of ore discharge shaft neck, therefore it’s called the low level ore discharging. Since there is a height difference of the pulp surface from feeding end to discharge end in the mill, the speed of ore pulp passing by the mill accelerate, so as to the fine particle can be discharged in time. Therefore, the mineral with larger density are not concentrated in the ball mill, with the less phenomenon of "over crushing" compared with the overflow type ball mill, and accelerated grinding speed. At the same time, due to fewer stored ore pulp in the lattice type ball mill and the grid plate set, it can install more balls and is easy to install the small balls.
When the ball falls, pulp resistance makes the hitting effect weakened. These reasons make the productivity and efficiency higher than the overflow type ball mill (about 10% - 25%), with the coarse-grained products and less “over crushing” phenomenon. But the lattice type ball mill has the complex structure mill, high quality, large power consumption. Due to the high productivity, the unit power consumption is still higher than the overflow type ball mill. In the ore dressing plant, the lattice type ball miss is widely used for rough grinding (particle size greater than 0.2mm), or a section of the two sections of continuous grinding.
